CLEMENT NOEL

Oboe / English Horn

Clément Noël is currently professor for oboe and English horn at
HEMU Lausanne and principal English horn of the Zurich Opera
Orchestra.

Born in Nancy, Clément Noël began playing the oboe in the class of Jean-Paul Hansen at the Esch-sur-Alzette Conservatory (Luxembourg). After studying with Christian Schmitt and Pascal Saumon he then joined the CNSMD in Lyon in the class of Jean- Louis Capezzali, Jérôme Guichard and Fabien Thouand. He perfected his skills – still in Jean-Louis Capezzali’s class – at HEMU where he obtained a Master’s degree as soloist.

In 2010, Clément Noël was appointed principal English horn of the Zurich Opera Orchestra (Philharmonia Zürich). He is also a regular guest of orchestras such as the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. He was also a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra between 2010 and 2012. He is invited as a soloist by the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra as well as the Budapest Festival Orchestra.

The young Franco-swiss has obtained several prizes in competitions for young talents such as a special prize of the European Music Prize of Youth (2003, Linz), a special prize of the Barbirolli International Oboe Competition, the first prize and the SACEM prize of the International Competition for Young Soloists from Luxembourg.

Also holding a bachelor’s degree in history (Paris VII) and a Master’s degree in political science from the Institute of Political Studies of Lyon, he is currently preparing a thesis in history and music at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris), under the direction of Rémy Campos.

Clément plays a Marigaux English horn and oboe.
